Fidar Municipality

The project is a competition entry for the Municipal Hall of the town of Fidar, in north Lebanon. The design attempts to rethink the relationship between architecture and landscape, and redefine the connection between inhabitant, institution, and the natural environment. The site, a former terraced agricultural field, is currently largely excavated and unplanted, making it accordingly disconnected from the adjacent road.  The design approach is to re-create the natural terrain through a series of stepped terraces that link back all adjacent levels of the site, including the main road’s slope, the water canal pathway, and the upper roundabout level. The redesigned landscape serves as a reclaimed public space and a new productive agricultural landscape serving the inhabitants of Fidar. It further anchors the municipality as a central community building that not only functions as a physical landmark, but also as a productive and sustainable complex.
