The Temporality of Martyrs Square

This research was developed as part of the installation project "Beirut Shifting Grounds", presented at the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale, in the Co-Habitats section. The overall project was led by Sandra Frem and Boulos Douaihy with Carla Aramouny, Rana Haddad and Nicolas Fayad. The research on Martyrs square was led by Carla Aramouny, and presented in the form of a video projection under the "Temporal Lens" section. The work focuses on the metamorphosis of Martyrs Square, Beirut’s collective space, through the ages, narrating its spatial history and ground manifestations through visuals, and archival photographs.
