Architecture of Water Futures

The world today is facing an unprecedented deterioration of its natural environment, bringing forth a rapid planet-scale transformation in an alarming speed. One of the main impending crises of global impact is that of freshwater, both in terms of its availability for future generations and its quality. While geographically rich with rivers and aquifers, Lebanon has been recently listed as one of the three countries with highest water stress levels in the world. The country is furthermore at a crucial junction regarding its relationship with the natural environment.

‘Architecture of Water Futures’ extends the question posited by the 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale's into "How Will We Live Together Without Water?" It positions the question as a necessarily architectural one through four themes that move across different scales of investigation and establish a framework for rethinking water environments and infrastructures.
