Ecologies of Leisure

The studio looked at the relationship between sea and land, their edge conditions and variations. It aimed to reconsider new forms of leisure that can emerge at that front, incorporating a diversity of programs, users, and possible activities. The studio specifically looked at the derelict sites of Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon, with their diverse land use, existing agricultural and residual spaces, large beach resorts and industrial structures. It explored various forms of “beach architecture” by looking at Mediterranean case studies, and devised a macro landscape / urban strategy with an architectural intervention in the area.  The research culminated in the form of an architectural intervention that operates at many levels, bridging the gap between the exiting infrastructural networks, the landscape and ecology of the area, and most importantly the waterfront condition
